Playing Catch Up Again

I didn't write a single word yesterday, so my goal today is to pace myself. I've been writing in 30 minute increments and then taking 10 minute stretch breaks. It's working well so far, I've banged out 1,708 words in about an hour. It I keep it up, I should have close to 6800 words in the next four hours. That would bring my grand total over 25,000 words.

It's the halfway point of the month today, so no matter what I need to hit 25,000 words. I go back to work tomorrow, so most of my writing will be done in the early evening this week. I still have a hard time believing I'm still going with my word count, especially since I probably will never get this manuscript published. It just feels good to get writing and use my imagination.

Update: I hit the 25,000 word mark around lunchtime. Now that I'm caught up, I'm taking the rest of the night off.

Home at Last

Well, I just got home from Starbucks, where I spent 3 1/2 hours upping my word count. I am now at a grand total of 20,026 words. I got there an hour later then I had originally planned on, but I made it there. I am still slightly behind my word goal per day. However, I am a lot closer now then I was this morning.

I managed to plug out 2,216 words while at Starbucks tonight (which is a lot for me). So now I am eating dinner and going to play World of Warcraft for a bit before heading to bed. I will most likely spend my weekend trying to get ahead on my word count daily goal since next week is gonna be very busy.

Falling Behind and Inspiration

Eek! I'm still behind with my NanoWrimo novel; 3,857 words behind. So tonight I am heading to the local Starbucks where I will stay for a minimum of 3 hours. I will plug out word after word until I am caught up (and who knows...maybe even be ahead).

If your interested that photo I posted with yesterday's entry was actually taken by me at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, MA. If you want to see more, you can check out my DeviantArt gallery here: http://wolfdrmn20.deviantart.com.

Hope you are all having a wonderful day so far. I will leave you with one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood,
And looked down one as far as I could,
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Dreams are Inspiration

Have you ever had a really vivid dream? The kind where you hear sounds and actually remember smelling the scents? I had one of those last night and I actually woke to a loud *bang* when the cops busted down the door in my dream (this is what I get for watching a show on US Marshall's before bed).

This has inspired me for my story, which is still lacking in word count. I managed to get above 17,000 words before I took a (rather long) break and played on World of Warcraft. Then I proceeded to get distracted by my 2 young nephews.

Alas, today my car is going back to the garage so I shall have plenty of time to write. The sad part is, I just got the car back from the garage yesterday...and then the check engine light came on when I left my sister's. I just can't win, so neither will my novel's characters.

*Evil Laugh*

And now, we return you to your regularly scheduled program...

Oh look, a distraction...

It's so easy to be distracted, but yesterday it wasn't household chores that got to me. I was distracted by World of Warcraft. Thus I wrote a total of 134 words yesterday.

This means that I am roughly 2839 words behind this morning. Today, I will be unplugging my Internet connection so I am not sucked into World of Warcraft. I'm set with my playlist for today's writing session.

If your interested, here's just a few songs on said playlist:

"American Pie" - Don McLean
"Yonder Lea" - Mediaeval Baebes
"A Feast for the Vain" - Kamelot
"Safeguard to Paradise" - Epica
"Carmina Burana" - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
"Livin' on the Edge - Aerosmith
"The Highwayman" - Loreena McKennitt
"Amaranth" - Nightwish
"Dreamer" - Ozzy Osbourne
"Will Ye Go Lassie Go?" - The Crofters
"These Ancient Stones" - Celtic Legend

There is a lot more on my list, but I'm not going to spend any more time naming them all. It's time for me to get writing!

It's NanoWrimo Time!

For those that are unfamiliar with NanoWrimo (National Novel Writing Month), it is a time for writers to cram a 50,000 word novel into the 30 days of November. This is my first "official" year participating in NanoWrimo. I plan to document my experience throughout the remainder of November (and beyond) as I delve into the art of novel writing.

This year I am already over the 15,000 word mark. That's no easy feat for a procrastination queen like me. I get distracted quite easily by dishes, laundry and World of Warcraft (yes, I am a geek). When I start editing my current novel-in-progress in December, I plan on adding a few excerpts here.

Who knows, maybe I'll even add cover art...Anywho, I'd best get writing and stop procrastinating.
